Tummy Tuck - Abdominoplasty

A Tummy Tuck (Abdominoplasty) is a surgically procedure to improve the appearance of the abdomen by which excess skin and fat gets removed from the abdomen. Connective tissue in the abdomen (fascia) usually is tightened with sutures as well. The remaining skin is then repositioned to create a more toned look.

There are 2 different types of Tummy Tucks: a Full and a Mini Tummy Tuck. The differences are mainly: the incision length, the possible correction level as well as the procedure around / with the belly button, recovery period. It depends on the personally goals and on the minimum need of correction of each patient which procedure suits more.

A Tummy Tuck in general is also performable with other types of aesthetic surgeries and often done with along with a liposuction.

Not all patients are suitable for a tummy tuck. Therefore the surgeon will need to evaluate a possible surgery in detail with each patient.

This surgery types are typically performed under general anaesthesia and a 1 night overstay at the hospital is required for monitoring the first hours after the surgery.

The post-operational process including recovery and expectable operative consequences varies as well as the process may show differences in general and/or detail from patient to patient; also in reference to the procedure performed. The general recovery for most patients of good health and expectable operative consequences are listed as follows. Mild to moderate pain, swellings and bruising after the procedure. Maybe open incisions for temporary drains to promote fluid drainage.

A post-operative off time from work for 2-3 weeks may be required, especially for a physically demanding job.

Fully recovery takes at least 3 to 6 months, with further fading of scars even after this period.

You should schedule at least 9 days starting from the day of surgery before returning to your home country.
