Strabismus

Our eyes are controlled with 6 eye muscles located outside of each eye. Every muscle has a duty. One moves the eye to the right, one moves it to the left, the other four muscles moving the eye up and down and to the angles.

Our eye muscles have to work together in balance and are controlled by our brain. Normally our vision, so the final picture we "see" composed of 2 pictures of the same content, so 1 picture from each eye and than the brain merges them into 1 whole 3D picture. If one eye is not correctly focused two different pictures with different content are perceived and the brain is not able to merge them correctly.

This problem is seen more often by children, but they ignore the incorrect image and try to see just and only with the healthy eye. As they assume just 1 picture they lose the depth perception.

Compared to children, adults will have double vision instead of ignoring the incorrect picture.

If there is familiy history of wearing high diopter glasses, it is an indication and reason to do a eye check-up with your child at an ophtalmologist earlier than age 3.

In different cases, your specialist will offer you the best treatment, which is for you or your child suitable. Surgery or covering the eye depens on the patient's condition.
